The Greatest Gift

The greatest gift ever given was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, and died to pay the sin-debt of the world.  His name was Jesus Christ.  He died on the cross of Calvary, and He rose, victorious over sin, three days later.

Did Jesus have to die?  Yes,
Jesus did have to die.   You see, every person is a sinner.  Romans 3:10 says, "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one."  Verse 23 says, "'For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God."  Yes, you are a sinner.  Have you ever told a lie?  "For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all." (James 2:10)  This verse means that even if someone obeys nine of the ten commandment, if he has broken only one, then he is just as guilty as though he had broken all. Romans 6:23 says, "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."  The punishment for sin is eternal death, which means eternal separation from God.  The wonderful gift of God is that Jesus Christ provided eternal life for us through His death and resurrection.

What is eternal death?  The rich man in Luke 16 did not believe, "And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments". (Luke 16:23)  "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8)  We don't have to go to hell, because the Lord made a way for us to get to heaven.  That way, the only way, is Jesus Christ. "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me." (John 14:6)

Would you like to accept this gift?  It is free.  You can not work for it.  "All our righteousnesses are as filthy rags."  (Isaiah 64:6)   All you have to do is accept  the gift.   Romans 10:9-10 says , "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thy heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. " Verse 13 continues, "For whosoever shall call upon the name Lord shall be saved."  You must believe in your heart that Jesus Christ is Lord and that God raised Him from the dead.  Then, if you confess to God that you believe, and ask Christ to save you, He will.

"But as many as received him, to them gave he the power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name." John 1:12
